.In this June 26, 2023, photo extracted from the International Spaceport station, direct sunlight shines off the soft waters of the Alabama River in a sensation called sunglint. When capturing on film Earth, astronauts commonly make the most of sunglint's propensity to boost the contrast in between water areas and surrounding land areas. In the 1960s, the Alabama River was stopped up, generating Dannelly Reservoir (the large polishing location at center left). Building of the dam likewise increased water levels upriver. This caused flooding at a number of aspects along the waterway. These disaster area are traditional of flood plains-- the poor, flat places instantly alongside much larger streams. In this particular image, flooded zones seem like uneven, intense shapes extending away from the stream, like at Gee's Bend (facility bottom).Text Debt: Justin Wilkinson.Image Credit History: NASA/Woody Hoburg.
